Karatu Simba Lodge
Karatu Simba Lodge is located about a thirty-minute drive from the gate of Lake ManyaraNational Park, approximately four kilometres off the main road to the entry of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Situated deep in the farming area of the Karatu district and nestled right alongside the Ngorongoro Forest—home to elephant, buffalo, hyena, and other wildlife—Karatu Simba Lodge offers fine hospitality for safari travelers.
Karatu Simba Lodge was designed to provide a quiet, restful place to unwind between your active safari days. You’ll be welcomed to reception with a refreshing towel and drink on arrival. Tea is served every afternoon and the bar is always open. Relax in the lounge or around the pool and don’t miss the evening campfire or watching the sunset behind the Ngorongoro Forest.
Location: The lodge is located near the village of Rhotia, outside Karatu town. It is located between Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. Driving, it is approximately 1 hour from Tarangire National Park, 30 minutes from Lake Manyara National Park, and 30 minutes from the Lodware Gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Accommodation and Meals
Accommodation is in individual twin, double, triple cottages or rondavels with canvas walls and solid attached bathroom with showers. Each unit has its own deck with safari chairs for relaxing and viewing the pastoral setting. Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi in the common areas, an evening campfire and pool with views onto the forest.
The lodge is eco-friendly with solar power and hot water and there is a well-stocked bar and dining room serving food and coffee fresh from nearby plantations.
The lodge sits off the main road along the northern safari circuit amongst a series of small farms and offers beautiful views to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Forest. If you’re lucky you might even get to spot elephants, buffalo, baboons, or other animals wandering outside the forest from the safety of your own private deck.
