Olivers Camp is an exclusive camp located 160 kms from Arusha and situated in the southern reaches of Tanzania’s remote Tarangire National Park, Oliver’s Camp and Little Oliver’s Camp are an echo of the trailblazing camps that first pioneered East African safaris.
This small, permanent camp is situated just outside the park and has easy access to the park as well as having a large concession area of its own. Oliver’s Camp offers true rustic luxury with the emphasis very much on personal service.
Olivers Camp is also perfectly situated to ensure a year-round Tanzania safari experience as each passing season paints Tarangire in vibrant new colours.
Accommodation and Meals
At Olivers Camp the 10 en-suite safari tents offer bush luxury without superfluous frills; the spacious outdoor shower perhaps the one extravagance you’ll happily allow. The large, luxury, walk-in tents, screened all the way around for maximum air circulation and spaced about 100 metres apart. Each tent is furnished with wooden beds, coffee tables and camp-style wardrobes. Private bathroom facilities (long-drop style toilet and bucket shower) are located behind each tent. There is no running water.
It’s a camp where the blood-red leather armchairs match the ochre soils beyond the decking; where headboards are hand-carved from African mahogany and baobab trees puncture the horizon from your private veranda.
Come nightfall, little more than canvas separates your king-size bed from the restless wilderness beyond.
Meals are taken communally at the main lodge, while around the campfire whiskies are poured and safari tales told late into the night.
The dining area at Olivers Camp is under canvas and the bar houses an extensive library – showing wildlife documentaries every night – and a telescope. A generator is used during the day and kerosene lamps supply light in the tents.

Tarangire National Park with its magnificent baobab trees and great diversity of wildlife is a compact and beautiful park that earns its place on any safari itinerary in Tanzania. Year-round water makes it particularly good for game. The Tarangire River in flood is a powerful beast, pouring out lakes into the landscape that survives, in lakes and swampy areas, throughout the dry season. Outside the Serengeti and Ngorongoro it has Tanzania’s greatest concentrations of wildlife – but far fewer visitors. Tarangire has a large population of elephant, often seen in their hundreds, migrant ungulates including specialist dry-country species such as the gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx. The birdlife is excellent, with one of the highest species counts this side of Tanzania
