We offer you this 4-day private camping or lodge safari to get a first glimpse of Tanzania’s highlights. During 4×4 game drives explore Tarangire National Park, which is famous for its huge elephant herds. Lake Manyara National Park will enchant birders with over 400 bird species. Proceed to the legendary Ngorongoro Crater and be on the look-out for Africa’s “Big Five”.
This short 4-day safari can be done all year round. It is perfect for travelers who want to come across a large variety of wildlife but only have limited time. To avoid long transfers, this safari puts a focus on Tarangire, Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater as they are all within two-hour of Arusha. We purposely exclude Serengeti National Park as it is too far away and would take up too much time during a 4-day safari.
Meet & greet with your professional guide in Arusha. Depart to Tarangire National Park, which is famous for its prolific elephant herds and its remarkable baobab trees. Spend the day on a game drive while trying to spot this park’s diverse wildlife. Look out for buffaloes, elands, elephants, giraffes, impalas, warthogs, wildebeests and zebras among others. You will stop for lunch at one of the picnic sites where you can enjoy stunning views over the Tarangire River with its surrounding savanna. In the afternoon continue to your accommodation located inside the park or on its outskirts.
Drive to Lake Manyara National Park in the morning. This small but scenic park offers a remarkable diversity of terrestrial habitats which are embraced in between the lake and the Rift Valley Escarpment. Search for large mammals such as buffaloes, elephants, giraffes and zebras. But also look out for the small ones like the dik-dik, impala and warthog. Listen carefully to the sounds of the bush as you discover Manyara’s great wealth of bird species. Have you spotted the colorful bee-eaters, kingfishers or rollers? On the lake shore you can seasonally find flocks of flamingos and pelicans. Drive up the Rift Valley for a picturesque view in the afternoon. Proceed to Karatu or the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for your overnight stay.
Get an early start and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the crater floor in front of the 600m high crater wall! This is one of the few places on earth where you can reliably see a large concentration of wildlife all year round. The crater supports almost 25.000 animals and is also home to Africa’s ‘Big Five’. Easy to spot are buffaloes, elephants and lions. Leopards and the highly endangered black rhinoceros are seen occasionally. Other wildlife includes elands, hippos, hyenas, crowned cranes and ostriches. In the afternoon leave the Ngorongoro Crater and drive to your accommodation in Karatu.
Return to Arusha with arrival in the early afternoon and drop-off in Arusha Town or at Arusha Airport (ARK) / Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward journey.
