Tarangire River Camp is a relatively new lodge just outside Tarangire National Park. The Camp is set within a large concession area (25,000 hectares) set aside for conservation by the local Maasai community of Minjingu, which borders Tarangire National Park in its North-Western limit.
Tarangire River Camp is in a great location for game viewing since it is only a mile and a half outside the main park gate.
Traditional grass thatching adorns the roof of the main lodge structure, which is set off the ground on an elevated deck. The breezy lounge boasts ample seating in a relaxing open-air environment. The dining area, where culturally inspiring meals are served, consists of simple safari style seating and the elevated position allows for excellent views over the riverbank below.Traditional grass thatching adorns the roof of the main lodge structure, which is set off the ground on an elevated deck. Accommodation and Meals
The Tarangire River Camp offers 21 Safari Tents, very spacious constructed of timber and canvas on elevated platforms. A lazy daybed adorns each tent’s generously proportioned private veranda.
There are 7 doubles (1 king-size bed), 8 twins (2 twin beds), 4 triples (3 twin beds) and 2 family tents (four beds).
A pristine forest of baobab and acacia groves surround the camp and several of the tents offer stunning views of the river which morphs to a dramatic sand bed in the dry season.
When the clouds are clear at Tarangire River Camp one can even spot Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro on the distant horizon.

The quality of food at Tarangire River Camp is quite fine. Breakfast consists of a mixed buffet with orders taken for eggs, omelets, toast, etc.
The buffet consists of yogurt, nuts, cereal, breads, fruit and juice. Lunch is served fixed course and not buffet.
Breakfast and lunch boxes are available for those wishing to enjoy their meals in the bush and on game drives.
Both the dining and lounge areas are married into a proper bon-fire area and game viewing deck that also overlook the same stunning views. A smaller, secondary game viewing deck rises above the ceiling and offers a high, intimate perch above it all. The lodge’s small, informal gift shop offers the families of the nearby Maasai villages a chance to sell some of their handmade wares.

Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park with its magnificent baobab trees and great diversity of wildlife is a compact and beautiful park that earns its place on any safari itinerary in Tanzania. Year-round water makes it particularly good for game. The Tarangire River in flood is a powerful beast, pouring out lakes into the landscape that survives, in lakes and swampy areas, throughout the dry season. Outside the Serengeti and Ngorongoro it has Tanzania’s greatest concentrations of wildlife – but far fewer visitors. Tarangire has a large population of elephant, often seen in their hundreds, migrant ungulates including specialist dry-country species such as the gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx. The birdlife is excellent, with one of the highest species counts this side of Tanzania.
